Maribel Medina
California Attorney

Maribel S. Medina is a nationally respected attorney with more than 30 years of experience providing strategic legal leadership, governance counsel, and high-stakes litigation oversight for public institutions. She brings a lifetime of advocacy, resilience, and legal excellence to her work with LA Fire Justice, where she stands alongside families impacted by the Eaton Fire in their pursuit of accountability and justice.

Born in Mexico and raised in a California farmworker community, Ms. Medina learned early the importance of standing up for those whose voices are often ignored. She was the first in her family to attend college, earning dual bachelor’s degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a Juris Doctor from UC Berkeley School of Law. These formative experiences shaped a career defined by public service, equity, and institutional accountability.

Throughout her distinguished career, Ms. Medina has served as General Counsel to some of California’s largest and most complex public agencies. In these roles, she advised governing boards and executive leadership, managed offices of legal professionals, oversaw billion-dollar construction and operations matters, and directed litigation in both state and federal courts.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Medina was selected as the first national Fried, Frank/MALDEF Fellow, dividing her time between corporate practice and civil rights litigation with the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. Her professional path reflects a rare blend of elite legal training, public sector leadership, and grassroots advocacy.

At LA Fire Justice, Ms. Medina now dedicates her experience to representing Eaton Fire survivors. She understands that this work is not only legal, but deeply human—families have lost homes, stability, and peace of mind. Ms. Medina is committed to meeting clients where they are, providing clear guidance, compassionate support, and relentless advocacy from start to finish. Together with the LA Fire Justice team, she is proud to stand with the Eaton Fire community in seeking justice and rebuilding what was lost.
