Rico Reyes
Attorney

Rico Reyes is a Texas-licensed attorney (not admitted in California) with over 23 years of experience. He provides LA Fire Justice with strategic leadership, management, operations and litigation support. Before joining the LA Fire Justice team, Rico served as the General Counsel for Honeywell FM&T, a $2 billion annual enterprise with over 7,000 employees. Prior to that, he practiced as a corporate and litigation attorney, including partnering with the founding members of LA Fire Justice on the successful prosecution of one of the largest agricultural mass torts in U.S. history. Rico also served as an Officer in the United States Marines Corps. (active and reserve duty), reaching the rank of Major. Rico last served as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate for Marine Forces in Africa and in Europe, where he provided commanding generals strategic legal counsel in various matters.

Rico comes to LA Fire Justice with a passion for service, for helping people, and for making a difference in his community. In 2003, his in-laws lost their home, their precious heirlooms, treasured family photos, and his wife’s childhood keepsakes to a house fire. Then in 2011, his hometown endured the Bastrop County Complex fire which destroyed more homes than any other wildfire in Texas history. Rico immediately began organizing, raising funds and distributing much needed resources to friends and neighbors during the immediate aftermath and beyond.

These experiences, in part, motivated Rico to become a commissioner for Emergency Services District #2 in Travis County, Texas. First as a commissioner, then President of the Board, Rico provided critical strategic leadership to the Pflugerville Fire Department, which has since been awarded an ISO Class 1 rating, placing it within top 1% of all fire departments nationwide, earning state, national, and international awards and recognition.

In 2021, Rico co-founded an informal group, Team Marine, that facilitated the historic evacuation of thousands of our Afghani allies during and after the US withdrawal from Kabul.

Rico earned his A.B. in government from Harvard University, as well as an MBA and J.D. from the University of Texas. He is also a distinguished graduate of the Marine Corps. Command and Staff College. While in law school, Rico completed a judicial internship at the Supreme Court of Texas, and represented abused and neglected children through the Children’s Rights Clinic.

Rico and his lovely wife of over 20 years, Natalie, love spending time in nature, traveling, and watching their two kind-hearted daughters chase their passions.
